Feb. 1, 2024 Welcome to February!! We have had some exciting weather lately and relentless fog. Glad to see the fog move out for a while and some warmer temperatures. On Monday, we held our Cardinal Community Committee meeting. At the meeting we took the results from the surveys sent out to teachers and students to create a list of takeaways from our question of how we can support them as teachers, and what is needed to make the best school/education for the students? The list was then narrowed down to the top three takeaways that we can carry out before the end of the year: Student/parent/special guest night. Teaming up elem. students with a middle or high school student as buddies weekly. Career day for students. Inviting alumni and other career guests to come and speak at a career fair in the spring. *More details to come in the future about these events. But if you see something that you would like to help with or get involved with please contact Mrs. Johnson or a committee member. The committee also would like to help create professional partnerships between local businesses and teachers to support classrooms. Please let us know if you are interested in being a professional partner with a teacher. Thank you to those who volunteered to be a part of the Cardinal community committee. In other news from the week, on Wednesday, we celebrated national hot chocolate day school wide. Our 3rd and 4th graders did a great presentation about hot chocolate and its origins. The middle and high school students joined the elementary kiddos in the cafeteria for cocoa and marshmallows. The elementary students did a coloring contest as well about cups of cocoa. These are displayed by the high school gym and we are asking visitors at the game to vote for their favorite picture for the coloring contest. Thursday, in the elementary school, we celebrated our students of the quarter and also recognized students for great attendance of 90% or higher for the last quarter. The ms/hs have rescheduled their assembly for Wednesday, Feb. 7th @ 815 in the high school gym. Anyone is welcome to attend. The dates for outdoor school have been set May 13-16th. If you are interested in volunteering, or have a skill to teach at camp, please contact Jessica Jones 6th grade teacher. All volunteers have to fill out a volunteer application and have a background check. We are winding down our basketball season and just want to thank you for showing your Cardinal pride at games through good sportsmanship towards the coaches, .players, cheerleaders and other community members. Jan 25, 2024 It has been an eventful past 2 weeks !! Snow, wind, and freezing rain creating closures and delays. Thank you for your patience and understanding on closures and delays. Working with the bus barn, neighboring districts, weather forecasts and lots of driving the roads early in the morning, we have to make the decision to close or delay by 5 am. Sometimes, the weather unfortunately  sneaks in after making the call! But I will always err on the side of caution for the safety of our students and staff. Please make sure your phone number and email are up to date with the office if you are not receiving calls.  Don’t forget if you are interested in volunteering at school k-12, please check with the office, and we would be happy to send you a volunteer form. The volunteer form does require a background check to be done. It usually takes a few days to clear and then you are good to go. Let us know when turning in the application, what area/classroom/event you would like to volunteer for. In Ione, we welcome volunteers in the classroom, sporting events, drama club, helping with the yearbook, and many other opportunities. Let us know what you would like to help with!! Finally this week, I wanted to reach out to let you know if you and your family are ever struggling with groceries, clothing, getting to appointments, finding housing, applying for health care, we have a great CARE coordinator- Peggy,  who can help wherever needed. Nov 30, 2023 As we say goodbye to November and move to the holiday season, I want to thank everyone for their support of Ione school, staff and students. It's the time of the year for reflections and being thankful for those around you. I want to give a huge shout out to the staff this past month. We have faced some staffing shortages and everyone has pitched in and gone above and beyond for our students everyday! Thank you to everyone who attended our thanksgiving feast! We had a spectacular turnout and look forward to gathering again next year for another fabulous meal. At the elementary school we are busy preparing for our Christmas concert on Dec. 13 @ 6[m. The middle school/high school drama students are busty helping create the backdrop for our concert as well. Mark your calendars and come enjoy a great concert and visit from Santa after. This weekend, Friday and Saturday is the Basketball Bonanza here in Ione. Come cheer on your Cardinals! Games start at 3pm on Friday. Monday is our first home middle school game @ 4pm. Mr. Rudolf is looking for some volunteers to help with the scoreboard at the games. Let him know if you would like to support our middle school basketball teams. Tuesday, December 5th is our school board meeting in the cafeteria. It starts with a work session at 5pm and regular board meeting at 5:30 pm. Below is the 3 hour delay plan for inclement weather. If your student is in need of a winter coat let us know. Through generous donations, we have coat available. Tracey & Ryan Go Cards! 3 HOUR DELAY PLAN Nov 28, 2023 Dear Families, With winter quickly approaching we would like to share our inclement weather plan with you. Our goal is to provide the safest possible learning opportunities for our students and staff. Throughout the winter the district administration closely monitors weather and road conditions in our district and strives to inform families of changes in a timely manner. Typically, we try to notify family’s the night before of a late start or closure, but there are times when the weather changes overnight and requires an early morning change in school plans. This year Ione School District will continue using a 3-hour delay for bad weather. With this later start on inclement weather days it will allow us more time to evaluate the weather and road conditions before students and staff are traveling for school. Buses will run their normal routes, only 3 hours later. On late start days’ schools will still have lunch available to students. You can keep informed of school closures a variety of ways: *School Messenger *District website *District Facebook page *local news and radio stations Queridas familias: Con el invierno acercándose rápidamente, nos gustaría compartir nuestro plan de inclemencias del tiempo con usted.

Our preschool parents are still walking the little kids down for now. Thank you for your help. Also, a reminder for students who are riding their bike or scooter to school, we ask them to walk their bike or scooter in front of the building on the sidewalk for safety. We have a lot of foot traffic in the mornings and afternoons. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe. We will send out dates as soon as they are set for a ribbon cutting ceremony to start construction and timeline of estimated construction deadlines. It’s that time of year again, the weather is changing and getting colder. Please make sure students are prepared for the weather.
